Databases 

 

PsycARTICLES is an important database used to locate scholarly psychology journals.  Some tips:

 

Use keyword searching. Enter keywords and use the AND operator to find articles. For example:

television AND violence AND child* [using truncation symbol * finds child, children, childhood, etc.]

 

Use the Preferences option to add your email and set the citation format to APA.  Setting Preferences.doc

 

Use the navigational tools within the database to move forward and back through the results list. Navigation .doc

 

Create a bibliography by adding articles to a Folder. Saving Results to the Folder.doc

 

          Use the Published Date option to limit search to a range of years.  Publication Date.doc

          Set the language limiter to English. English.doc

Communication & Mass Media Complete   is an important database for research on the mass media.    Some tips:

 

          Limit searches to scholarly journals.

ProQuest Psychology Journals and ProQuest Social Science Journals are secondary databases.  Some tips: 

 

          Limit searches to scholarly journals.

 

          Mark documents to collect articles in the My Research folder. 

 

          Use the My Research option to print, email, export citations and bibliography from your marked list.

         

          Note:  The information in My Research is saved until you log-off.
