1.       Knowledge

 

Possible Indicators for establishing whether the student has met the learning outcome

 

a.        Student understands that difference is constructed.

 

b.        Student understands that the negotiation of difference is historically and contextually situated.

 

c.        Student understands the construction of privilege and power.

 

d.        Student understands that difference has implications and consequences in everyday and institutional life. 

 

e.        Student understands the key principles of Catholic Social Teaching.

 

f.          Student understands the role of justice in negotiating differences.

 

g.        Student describes the structural systems (such as economics or politics) that promote/discourage the Common Good.

 

h.        Student expresses his or her own spiritual poverty (i.e. student understands that he or she has something to learn and gain from the Other in the same way other people have something to learn and gain from the student).

 

2.       Values

a.       Student serves those who are poor and on the margins of society.  

 

b.       Student demonstrates an appreciation for every person’s intrinsic worth and dignity.     

 

c.        Student contributes to the good of the community. 

 

d.       Student preserves the environment and its resources. 

 

e.       Student recognizes the rights of all people to participate in the political, economic and cultural life of society. 

 

f.         Student describes methods of peaceful resolution of small-scale and large-scale differences and disputes.

 

3.       Skills

a.       Student develops and implements a research plan.  

 

b.       Student exhibits leadership and organizational skills in developing community partnerships.

 

c.       Student actively participates in community partnerships.

 

d.       Student demonstrates an ability to mediate, negotiate, and advocate on behalf of or alongside others to confront social injustice.

 

e.       Student demonstrates an ability to educate others about social justice perspectives.

 

f.         Student engages in democratic deliberation about the Common Good.
