Ethnic Biography Paper

For this assignment you will write a 4-8 page essay that explores your own family biography and the larger historical background of one of your ethnic identitiesYour essay will explore the following questions.

·Where did your family ancestors come from? If you are a U.S. citizen, what do you know about your family’s journey to the U.S.? If you are not a U.S. citizen, what have been your family’s migrations to other countries?

·Choosing one of the ethnic groups to which you identify… what was the overall history of this group’s migration and settlement in the United States? What types of prejudice and discrimination did this group face? How have they adapted/assimilated to the United States?

·What have you learned about the ways that your ethnic biography has shaped your own life today? What might life be like if your family ancestors did NOT migrate in the way that they did? How might the United States be different without the culture and traditions of your ethnic group?

Papers should be double-spaced with one-inch margins. Your paper should include at least three valid bibliographical sources. Wikipedia will not be accepted as a valid source. These sources should be cited in ASA format (see http://www.cabrini.edu/library/ASAstyle.html).

The paper will be evaluated in terms of:

1.Research on family background.

2.Research on ethnic group’s experience in the United States.
