Outline of Semester Project and Interim Reports  (See the syllabus for details on submission format and due dates.)

 

Interim Report 1:

A discussion of the social and cultural aspects of the selected country.  This includes religion, language, education, population, education, income, economic/social classes, age, literacy, and consumer behavior.   This also includes relevant statistical data such as GNP, population growth and density, gender ratios and income distribution.  Also to be included is a discussion on the country's sustainable economic development.

 

Interim Report 2:

A discussion of the political and regulatory environments of the selected country.  This includes government and legal system, attitudes and laws about foreign trade, trade restrictions, currency and ownership restrictions, and a political risk assessment.  Also to be included are attitudes towards America, Americans, and American businesses.  

 

Final Report:

A discussion of strategies for entering the market, distribution systems, communications strategies and examples of ads, promotional tools and media marketing tools.  The rationale behind the marketing strategies should be supported by the data collected and reported on during the semester.

International Encyclopedia of Business and Management:   (Ref HF 1001 .I53 2002 v.1-8) Entries on specific countries include information on the culture, history, political economy and other issues relating to the geographic area.   Marketing topics and other business information is also included in this series of encyclopedias.

Market Share Reporter:  (Ref HF 5410 .M35) An annual compilation of reported market share data on companies, products, and services derived from periodical literature and brokerage reports.

World Consumer Lifestyles Databook 2003:  Key Trends: (Ref HF 5415.3 .W67 2003) Statistical demographic data organized by country and cross-country comparison.

Business Source Premier : (Connect) Provides coverage in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. This database is updated daily on EBSCOhost.

MarketResearch.com:  (Connect) Reports include quantitative and qualitative data as well as industry interviews, competitive analysis, market trends, product innovations, buyer behavior, market share information.  Various marketing research publishers contribute articles to this database. 

Mergent Online:  (Connect) Access country profiles that include maps, statistical data, political information, demographic data, alternative energy usage, history and other country-specific facts.

 

Passport Reference:  (Connect) Analysis of current socio-political situation, economic performance and changes in population structure by age and sex 1976 to 2020 for various countries.  Comments provide current information on trends in the global economy.

Country Commercial Guides: (Connect) Information on the business and economic and political situations of foreign countries.  Produced by various U.S. government departments, the guides include:   trade prospects, marketing, investment climate, financing, and business travel.

Pew Global Attitudes Project:  (Connect) Series of worldwide public opinion surveys that encompasses a broad array of subjects ranging from people's assessments of their own lives to their views about the current state of the world and important issues of the day. More than 175,000 interviews in 54 countries have been conducted as part of the project's work.

United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Division for Sustainable Development:  (Connect) Click the link ‘National Information’ on the left of the webpage to search for reports on various countries.  Information provided includes country profiles and national sustainable development reports provided by the UN and participating countries.
