The US Census Department is the primary source for demographic information. The Census Department provides raw data as well as full text reports on specific ancestry groups.
American Community Survey

Use the 2005 Data Profiles for the nation, states, and geographic areas. After choosing a geographic level, choose Social Characteristics (Table 1) to get data on 27 ancestries.
American Factfinder Info
- For detailed demographics on ancestry groups, use the Census 2000 Summary File 4 (SF 4). Follow this path to create customized tables with specific demographic data.
Data Sets> Decennial Census> Census 2000 Summary File 4 (SF 4) > Custom Table.
Choose a Geography
Choose your Data Elements (Select a Table by Subject or Keyword)
Choose Filters and add them to the worksheet
At the Population Groups option, select Ancestry Groups and choose the appropriate group.
Select Show Result.
Data can be downloaded or printed.

Ethnic Majority
- Website founded to support the advancement of African, Hispanic and Asian Americans. Offers consumer news and tools for these groups at the Consumer link.
Multicultural America
- Website that offers information on very specific cultural groups in America. Information on the history, origins, immigration, settlement patterns and acculturation and assimilation patterns is included among cultural other information.
Pew Research Center's Publications on Demography
- Offers access to the reports of the Pew Research Center projects concerning population trends and immigration flow. Specialized information from the Pew Hispanic Center offers information on demographics for Hispanic Americans.
NationMaster Encyclopedia
- Search the Encyclopedia for the ethnic group. For example, "Pakistani Americans".
Occupations:
For information on occupations and employment of ancestry groups use the Census 200 Summary File 4 (SF 4) available through American Factfinder.

Choose a table selection method (For example, choose QTP27 Occupation by sex and QTP29 Industry by sex) and add them to the worksheet
At the Population Groups option, select Ancestry Groups and choose the appropriate group.
